Those folders! I thought it was job related until I saw the Hoshino file. There’s one folder named “sozai” which means material, an innocuous name for a filmmaker but what if the juicy stuff is in that one👁️👁️ Also, very time the Ai mystery comes about I always wonder what happened to the previous company ceo? Why did he disappear? Does his wife know anything? I don’t think he’s the dad but I think he was involved indirectly. Maybe he realized afterwards he let some info slip? He’s definitely a clue and I’m wondering why Aqua doesn’t bring him up with that particular question mark in mind. I was happy to get more humanity out of Aqua, his personality is hard to pin down since he was a fully formed adult before reincarnation while Ruby is basically just growing normally past the 12 years of her previous life. The guilt makes sense to me, not just in that final moment but because he knew there was a stalker that had enough information to know Ai’s last name. So he could feel like he should’ve been on the look out. It was sad to have his face look like his younger self for a second before his previous self crushed that happiness. Props to Akane for showing emotional intelligence in not pushing Aqua for a reveal. Thematically it makes sense to have her as the first “outsider” to figure it out since so much of how she was introduced touched on Aqua’s lingering trauma with AI’s death. In fact, his happy memories of her seemed to be moments that affirmed he saved her.

I think it's more likely Deku's mom couldn't AFFORD the costs of getting a Quirk. Aoyama's family is clearly rich, and could have more connections or be useful in some way to him.

Actually, the fact it was inspired by Hana Kimura's case is made up. The specific chapter of Akane's suicide attempt released shortly after Kimura's, and the plot was actually planned a long time before that, as the author himself confirmed. It is not directly inspired from it. It is just a misfortunate coincidence, and a further emphasis of how tragic celebrities have it in the entertainment world.

Every episode in this anime is always so good and sad. Also, the survivor guilt in this one definitely can feel that.

Hoshino is their actual real name, which is Ai's family name. It just wasn't ever released to the public, so no one knows that's Ai's family name.

He also doesn’t have blond hair (though I don’t know if that is supposed to be a definite trait). I think the reason the director feels traumatized by the incident is because he personally knew Ai, having worked with her on the drama and movie, and it is a big shocker knowing a person that was the object of a murder in your industry. It’s like having someone in your workplace murdered… you’re gonna feel something unless you’re a cold, insensitive demon (like in Frieren’s world), I mean, person. In addition, he’s had a long relationship with Aqua, so that relation will be a constant reminder.

With the director, I think that his trauma might stem from the fact that Aqua might've definitely had loud, screaming nightmares when he was younger and the director, not being a therapist, had no idea how to console a hysterical child and became extremely scared/worried.

Last season was technically 11 episodes, but the first episode was a 90 minute movie that could be split into about 3 episodes. So season 1 was 13 episodes if you want to look at it that way.

It's SO SATISFYING to see Kana fans who don't hate Akane LMAO Regarding the whole fanbase stuff that you guys probably already realized by now (this is my experience): i ended S1 liking Kana more (like most of people did), but IIRC THIS chapter here was when i decided "nah....Akane is top tier". Listen, i still like Kana, but here's how i see it: I can picture other girls their age doing what Kana does (acting, singing, being an idol), and that's ok....BUT i CANNOT picture someone their age doing what Akane does, regarding her detective skills. This made her character soooo unique to me, that she became not only my best girl, but the best character in the series for me. For last, i need to say this: the majority of the fanbase is composed of Kana fans, and A LOT of them like to attack Akane. Like, A LOT lot. Seeing the comments and how people simply dimish her importance and role in the story just made me slowly start to not like Kana that much anymore. Am i blaiming the fanbase? Yes, i am. Do i know this is wrong? Yes, i do, but these are my honest thoughts. I am perfectly aware that some Akane fans also like to hate on Kana, but my point is: is disproportional. Like i said, the majority of fans are from Kana's team LOL so Akane fans are kinda like "the victims trying to fight back" imo. Anyway, hope you guys continue to enjoy the rest of the season.

It's shown here too but it's a little less clear. 11:41 You guys actually got it right here as well. In the manga, the director has a thought bubble showing Kana. Meaning that he thought Aqua was with Kana

As a manga reader i already know what's going to happen but my reaction was same as that middle girl 😢💔. Can you imagine a 15 year old kid saying best jeanist to take care of other's. Bro became my favourite character in mha after he pulled that attack and he finally understand midoriya. Everything was perfect animation, emotion's, music. What a character development.

“Clue” was the stupidest movie concept, it makes sense that once you’ve seen the movie and know who did it you wouldn’t watch it again, but at the same time something that makes you watch the movie is you want to figure out who did it, but that’s impossible because there are three different endings…😢

This show just has me thinking so many thoughts each week. I’m running away from the essays I actually need to finish and instead writing one in your comment section (>_<) Firstly, massive props to the co-creators, though I expect nothing less from a story by the creator of Kaguya-sama. I personally am way more invested in the B-Komachi side of the plot, so an Aqua and Akane heavy arc with the promise of relatively slow development on the investigation (it’s way too early to get a massive reveal anyway) was a little worrying for me. Yet the behind the curtain peeks and the meta conversation about the industry are interesting enough to keep me looking forward to the next episode each week. On a human level, the two mangakas being able to throw that much shade at each other and still being in good terms the next morning is great, I think it’s because they each had valid points and didn’t really attack the other’s character so much as pointing out where the other messed up or is messing up. I don’t know, I have a thing about the whole idea that just because someone says something out of anger, it doesn’t count and it’s just random thoughts they’ve never had. I mostly think it’s BS, those words have to come from *somewhere*. So it was a good example of people getting heated without being cruel. Regarding shipping, I can like a character and still not want them to end up as part of the main couple. I really like Kana, and despite the very long track record of what I’ve seen of so many East Asian media writers’ obsessions with the endgame couple having some type of childhood connection, I am crossing my fingers that she and Aqua don’t end up together. For her, I want a story about growing out of her attachment to Aqua as she makes more real connections. Most of Aqua’s motivation behind their interactions is that he wants Ruby to have good group-mates and he’s counting on Kana to be the rock of the group. On her part, he left an impression on her as a child, and she has trauma around the idea of people not genuinely liking her after her child acting days, which is why she turned into a people pleaser. I think she subconsciously thinks if he likes her, as someone who knew her at her least likable, then it means she can win back the affection and the approval of people in general. It’ll be sad if/when he starts liking Akane for real because Kana sees herself as unlovable, but if it can be a catalyst for her to not place her value in only being liked and instead have pride in who she is and her talent, then it will be great character growth. My only worry about Aqua/Akane is that I don’t care about either character for their own sake. Aqua is the vehicle for the mystery and suspense subplot. Akane’s introduction to the story didn’t work for me on so many levels that I just don’t like her. In a story so full of characters that ring so true, these two fall very flat for me. They have a singular personality trait each which are Ai for him and acting for her. Back on a meta level, I love that after establishing two love interests for Aqua, we are seeing a story about a mangaka changing their plan for the romances according to the audience’s wishes. I wonder if Abiko-sensei will come to the realization that she should have stuck to the original plan. Audiences are fickle, easily swayed by looks, what if she changes it in the play and the fact that they are dating “in real life” might make it so that people like it more that way? I don’t think it’s a coincidence that it was part of the criticism the senior mangaka raised. Personally, unless it’s really a terrible ship AND the romance is central to the story, I usually think writers should stick to the original couples because they usually haven’t laid the narrative ground work for the alternative. At the end of the day, while characterization is what separates great stories from okay ones, all characters exist to serve the plot. However, for the plot to feel natural, characters have to feel consistent, and when relationship dynamics change, sometimes authors change the characters and it becomes a disappointing story. I wonder, what do you guys think🤔 PS: I think you shouted out my comment 2 weeks in a row so thank you :D This one is way too long but I would like to hear your discussion on authors changing the story because of the audience’s feedback, if it becomes relevant to the show.
